Friends of the Cary Area Library Scholarship Winners
In May, FOCAL awarded two $500 scholarships to Cary-Grove High School students Ellen Rozek and John Carroll. The winners were chosen out of 25 applicants. Ellen will be attending the University of Iowa in the fall to major in English and John will be attending Carthage College to major in Special Education. Congratulations to them both! Look for information on next year's scholarship awards in the spring.
Vacation or "Staycation" Contest Reminder
It's not too late to submit a family vacation photo for the library's photo contest.. The contest is still open until August 22 and we are looking forward to your funny or far-away vacation photo in front of a library that you visited on vacation! Not traveling this summer? No problem…we are even accepting “staycation” photos. Just visit a library that is new to you and your family and submit your photo in front of it to the Cary library. The contest runs now through Friday, August 22.
Download Station and MP3 Player Checkout
The library now has a dedicated computer for downloading MyMediaMall titles
directly to your mobile devices. Sign up to use the computer at the Adult
Services desk with your Cary Area library card. Additionally, the library
will soon begin checking out MP3 players. If you've never owned one before
and want to know what all the hype is about, or just need a player for temporary
use, visit the Circulation Desk with your Cary Area library card. You can
check one out for three weeks but remember to bring them back on time to avoid
the late fine of $1 a day. We will be having a computer class to demonstrate
how to download audio files to a M3 player.

Register To Vote At The Library
The last day to register to vote for the presidential election is Tuesday, October 7. In an effort to help, we will have extra staff available each Saturday in September from 11:00 am-2:00 pm. You may also register during our regular business hours (Monday-Thursday 9:00 am to 8:30 pm and Friday and Saturday 9:00 am to 4:30 pm). The process requires two forms of ID, one with your current address, and only takes a few minutes. Call the library (847.639.4210) with any questions
